Happy Birthday Daddy-O

Happy Birthday to my DAD!!!
He turns 51 today! Isn't he a good looking cowboy! This picture is of him doing one of the many things that he's best at...singing and playing guitar.
My poor Dad is sick on his birthday. For those of you that might call him to wish him Happy Birthday, be prepared to need a hearing aid. He's losing his voice.
We love you Daddy-O. Have an awesome birthday, and GET WELL SOON!!!

Am I my mother???

Is it inevitable that as women, we turn into our mothers?

I'm babysitting Hayden today. The girls were doing their usual bickering, and before I thought otherwise I heard myself saying "if you don't have anything nice to say to each other, don't talk to each other at all." Growing up with two sisters, I heard my mother say the same thing to us countless times.

That's not the only thing that I find myself doing that reminds me of my mother. There are MANY more. Most of them happen when I'm speaking to my children (or singing to them. Something my mom did regularly was sing really crazy songs that we thought she'd made up. Until as adults we heard them sung by other people and thought "What are you singing???? That's MY mom's crazy song! - right girls!). I see my mom in my movements, the way I stand, the way I walk. I think I'm actually turning into my mother. Good thing I love my mom so much! As a teen I would have been horrified at the thought of being like my mom, but now I see just how amazing of a woman she really is, and don't really mind one bit that I'm a little more like her every day! She's a wonderful wife, mother, host, friend, and most importantly child of God. I would love to be a little more like her.

Even more than that though, I hope that I can someday say "I think I'm turning into Jesus!" not in a literal way of course. I know that I can never be perfect like him, but the reason that we're placed on this earth is to be more like him, and have others see him through us! I want to say that I have some of the characteristics of Christ in me. That I have compassion, patience, mercy, grace, understanding, LOVE, and many more characteristics that I strive every day to have. Shouldn't we ALL have that goal?

WOW!!!!

Wow!! I got these sent to me in an e-mail and they really make you think. I thought the last one was the most amazing of them all. Enjoy everyone!

These are rather interesting.

It is written in the Bible (Galatians 6:7): " Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Here are some men and women who mocked God:

JOHN LENNON:
Some years before during his interview with an American Magazine, he said, "Christianity will end, it will disappear. I do not have to argue about that. I am certain. Jesus was ok, but his subjects were too simple, Today we are more famous than Him" (1966).
Lennon, after saying that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, was shot six times.

TANCREDO NEVES (President of Brazil):
During the Presidential campaign, he said if he got 500 votes from his party, not even God would remove him from Presidency. Sure he got the votes, but he got sick a day before being made President, then he died.

CAZUZA (Bi-sexual Brazilian composer, singer and poet):
During a show in Canecão ( Rio de Janeiro ), while smoking his cigarette, he puffed out some smoke into the air and said: "God, that's for you." He died at the age of 32 of AIDS in a horrible manner.

THE MAN WHO BUILT THE TITANIC:
After the construction of the Titanic, a reporter asked him how safe the Titanic would be. With an ironic tone he said: "Not even God can sink it." The result: I think you all know what happened to the Titanic.

MARILYN MONROE:
She was visited by Billy Graham during a presentation of a show. He is a preacher and Evangelist and the Spirit of God had sent him to preach to her. After hearing what the Preacher had to say, she said, "I don't need your Jesus." A week later, she was found dead in her apartment.

BON SCOTT:
The ex-vocalist of AC/DC. On one of his 1979 songs he sang, "Don't stop me, I'm going down all the way, down the highway to hell". On the 19th of February 1980, Bon Scott was found dead......he was choked to death by his > vomit.

CAMPINAS/SP IN 2005
In Campinas, Brazil a group of friends, drunk, went to pick up a friend. The mother accompanied her to the car and was so worried about the drunkenness of her friends and she said to the daughter - holding her hand, who was already seated in the car, "My daughter, go with God and may he protect you." She responded, "Only if He travels in the boot, coz inside here it's already full."
Hours later, news came by that they had been involved in a fatal accident. Everyone had died. The car could not be recognized by what type of car it had been, but surprisingly, the boot was intact. The police said there was no way the boot could have remained intact. To their surprise, inside the boot was a crate of eggs, none was broken.

Many more important people have forgotten that there is no other name that was given so much authority as the name of Jesus. Many have died, but only Jesus died and rose again, and he is still alive. JESUS!!!

Fears!

Brielle has this CRAZY fear of every type of insect known to man. Is this normal??? I don't even know how to deal with it sometimes. She gets absolutely hysterical. For example, the other night we were at Jon's parents house. As she was walking out of the office I watched her jump at least 3 feet, then she was screaming at the top of her lungs and bawling like I've NEVER seen her cry before. All because of the smallest centipede I've ever seen in my entire life. Then today she came upstairs shaking and crying because of a little black beetle no bigger than 2cm long. What a nut!!!
It drives us crazy. We're really trying to teach her that screaming is ONLY for when you're in some kind of trouble, not because you're scared. She's starting to get that. I don't want to become immune to hearing her screams. I have this fear that some day we'll be out somewhere and I'll hear her scream and think "oh it's probably just a spider". Then not be able to find her because someones taken her. Dramatic, I know!!! But she seriously screams way to much!
I know that she's just being a girl. I just wish there was something I could do or say that would change her reactions to these tiny critters.
Any advice anyone??? I'm more than willing to hear it.

Dad's off curling

Well, my Dad and Kevin are in Regina curling in the "Friar's Briar". As far as I know they're doing pretty good. They've played against each other once and my Dad beat Kevin....Ha Ha. Yes, Kevin, I HAD to put that in there!!!

I came across this picture and it reminded me of when Kelly and I would go with my Dad to the curling rink. It didn't happen often, but it was a lot of fun.

Well, everyone...let's cheer my Dad on. I hope he wins. I think it's been a few years since he's won the friar's briar. (Oops...maybe I shouldn't have told you that. Ha Ha). He's the skipper, and he does an AMAZING job at it too.

GO DAD GO!!!!!! I'm giving you encouragement hugs in my thoughts.

Micah FINALLY has a tooth. He's now 9 months old and he just got his first tooth! It's funny though, it's on the top and off to the left. Don't they normally get their front teeth first? Brielle got her first tooth at 7 months. She got her bottom two first (in the front) and then her top 2, but not the front ones. She got the 2 that are on either side of the front teeth. She looked really funny for a while there.
Well, I'm very relieved to know that he actually WAS teething all this time. I was beginning to think that my content little boy was deciding that he just didn't want to be known as content any more. WOW kids are different. Brielle never got cranky when she was teething. She'd have red cheeks one day and a couple of days later she'd have one or two more teeth. Micah wants every one to know that he's uncomfortable.
This blog is for everyone's enjoyment, but mostly for Jen and Kelly. I know that they'll be excited by this odd news. Ha Ha. Aren't aunties strange. It's fun to have someone to be excited with over the weirdest things. Like potty training. Who else in the world would care if your child is going to the washroom in the toilet or not? Ah the delights of being a mom!

Girls Day Out

Saturday was Girls Day! Jon's Mom and Dad are home this week, and Leanne's parents are out for a week as well. This Saturday we had a girls day out, it was REALLY nice. It started out with a trip to Cactus Club Salon and Spa at 9:15am. Leanne, Dianne, and Iris all had Pedicures and I had a massage. The massage was nice, it hurt when she was working on my shoulders...I didn't know if I should laugh or cry at some points. Once she was done though I felt really relaxed. Then we were off to the Tea and Time Emporium for lunch. We had a nice lunch, and tea of course. We finished up there at around 12:30pm and headed back to my house so that I could nurse Micah and put him down for a nap. We spent the afternoon shopping at Southcenter Mall. Now, by this time my shoulders started to bother me. It hurt to put my purse straps on my shoulder. I've never had a professional massage before so I wasn't really sure what to expect. Although, I had a slight feeling that this was NOT what it was supposed to feel like. More and more throughout the evening yesterday and throughout the day today it's been feeling a little worse. I can't even touch my shoulders at all, they're swollen and VERY sore. Sucky deal!!! I'm sure that in a few days they'll feel much better. I certainly don't feel as tight or knotted up as I did, but I'll have to wait to see what it's going to feel like in a little bit. Anyways, I just thought that I'd share our little experiences. We had quite the day. It was the first time that I ever went shopping and didn't have a stroller to push. As a matter of fact, it's the first time that I've ever been away from Micah for that long. I really enjoyed it, it was nice to feel un-needed for a little bit. I know that once Micah is a little older, and really doesn't need me as much that I'll really miss it. As of right now though it was nice to be able to have a little space.
Well, Kelly. I hope you enjoy reading this. You wanted something new to read, and since I didn't have anything terribly exciting to write about (not that I ever really do), you have to put up with my rambling.

And let the week begin...

My weekend was very good. We had some friends over for lunch yesterday, it was really nice. We did a fondue lunch. We had a cheese and a broth fondue for the meal with 3 different kinds of meat and some veggies for dipping. For dessert we had a chocolate-caramel fondue and a white chocolate fondue, with strawberries, nectarines, brownies, grapes and cantalope for dipping. It all turned out really good.

I love fondues because you have to sit and visit while you're eating. It's not just an eat and run type of meal. We sat around the table until 5 o'clock visiting and dipping. It was a lot of fun and a great way to get to know some new people.

Jon and I have found it a little more difficult to make friends at this stage in our lives because we're a young couple but we have 2 kids already. Most of our friends are married but haven't yet begun having children, or are not yet married. It's a whole different thing when you have to find something to do that you can do with children too. We just don't really relate to most of our friends from years ago. Don't get me wrong they're still our friends and we love them, and love hanging out with them. It's just nice to get to know some people that are in the same boat as us (as we're finding it to be slightly uncommon).

Well, today's monday. The start to a VERY busy week. Jon's mom and dad have this week off, and his aunt and uncle are coming to visit this week. We have a girls day planned for Saturday, which I'm rather excited about. It'll be nice to get out for a day with the girls and not have to keep Micah with me. Well....speaking of Micah....my "mommy duties" are calling me. I need to go tend to my son. I hope you all have a good week, and hopefully I'll be able to steal a minute to write to you before the week is over. Enjoy this beautiful weather while you can, it's supposed to get cold again on Friday (snow on Thursday).

Glasses

Glasses....Glasses....Glasses....
I am NOT a big fan of wearing my glasses. Just the other night I was taking my contacts out and realized that I have no more contact solution. So the next day I put a new pair of contacts in (because they're stored in contact solution), and had the intentions of buying more contact solution when I did a bit of grocery shopping later that evening.

Do you think I could remember what it was I wanted to get once I was there???? Of course not!! So here I am today, stuck without a vehicle (yes that's right! Jon broke his truck so he has mine once again....er...boys!) and no way to get more contact solution until Jon gets home from work.

The glasses that I'm sporting today are ones that I've had since...I think, grade 10...that was 9 years ago. Yes...I AM that old. Needless to say, my prescription has changed numerous times since then. So here I am, wearing glasses and still squinting to see everything clearly. Talk about getting a headache. I can't wait until Jon gets home so that I can go get contact solution and put my contacts in!!!

Anyways, enough complaining. I just felt like writing to you all, and the only thing that I can think about is how annoying it is to have to wear my glasses. Well, I really hope that everyone has a GREAT weekend. I'm not really doing a whole lot this weekend...although, it IS my mom's birthday on Sunday. I'd tell you how old she's turning, but she'd probably kill me! Ha Ha. So maybe I'll go do something with her. I'll give you an update later.
